Sr Pamela Catherine Peasel
After deep discernment and many prayers, I am a Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity Novice at the Motherhouse in Manitowoc, WI. If I may, I would like to share a little of my story with you.
In the fall of 2008 I packed my bags and traveled across Lake Michigan from my home state to the state of Wisconsin, entering into the convent as a postualnt. I come from a small but growing town, Grand Blanc, MI, about a ten-minute drive north of Flint. I am one of five children with two older brothers, a younger brother and a younger sister, myself in the middle. My parents, Richard and Sharon, are both living in Grand Blanc. My dad is retired from working at General Motors. Originally, my family and I are from the state of Missouri, and that is where I began my schooling until moving to Michigan in 1987. Over the course of the next 15 years, I graduated from Grand Blanc Schools and began my college career at Mott Community College in Flint, MI, later transferring to the University of Michigan-Flint, earning a degree in secondary education with a concentration in French and History.
During my college years, I was blessed twice with the opportunity to study abroad, once in the province of Quebec at l’Universite Laval, a five-week intensive French language course, and the other in Dijon, France at l’Universite Bourgogne, again studying the language and living the culture over the course of four months. I was able to do some traveling during that time to various countries, experiencing different ways of life, creating within me a love of visiting and discovering other cultures.
A year after returning to the United States, I began teaching at Almont High School, both French and World History and it was during this time that I began to discern the possibilities of the religious life. I learned about the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity via the internet. It was through the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity vocation directors, Sisters Julie Ann Sheahan and Mary Ann Spanjers, that I continued to receive information and updates on the latest images and songs on the blog site Franciscanized World. Before this, I had only looked at orders in Michigan, hoping to stay close to family but I thought since we shared the same lake, I should come and check it out and well…here I am!
If I am not preparing my Novitiate instructions on the vows as I await profession, doing other homework as I complete a masters degree in education at Silver Lake College of the Holy Family sponsored by my religious community, you may find me faithful in furthering my relationship with God, walking the trails here at the Motherhouse, knitting, or doing various activities with others in formation. I also enjoy baking, reading and gardening. I am not too active in sports (aside from bowling and baseball on the WII) but I am an avid Detroit Red Wings Hockey Fan, courtesy of my younger brother. Football in Wisconsin and here at the convent can be quite the event! The Sisters here do support the Green Bay Packers, but, in all honesty I do have to support my home team , the Detroit Lions especially since they defeated the Packers already this season!
My heart rejoices in being able to further my relationship with the Lord and coming to know the way of living and serving as a Franciscan Sister of Christian Charity. Peace of Christ Always!
