What if you feel a call to vocation but can't quite buy all the Catholic doctrine?

Solange asks:

Dear Fr Anthony,

What if you feel a call to vocation but can't quite buy all the Catholic doctrine? I was raised Protestant and can't get into the praying to the saints thing. I have other differences, too, but that's one.

Dear Solange,

I think you need to go deeper in your understanding of the Catholic faith. Keep Christ at the center, get to know him, ask the Holy Spirit for the gift of understanding, and then study your faith seriously. Most of the problems people have are not so much with what the Church teaches as such, but with certain incorrect understandings or charicatures of the faith.

The prime source for a really good understanding of the faith is the Catechism of the Catholic Church, and then, fortunately, there is today a wealth of websites, such as Catholic Answers, catholic.com, etc, where you will find really good material.

God bless.
