Is there a cut-off age for a vocation?

Jonathan asks:

I know that the Church is accepting vocations of people later in life, but is there a cut off age? Also with people later in life, they are bound to have acquired some debt. How is this handled? Must one satisfy all outstanding debt before he/she may follow their calling? What are the education requirements?

Dear Jonathan,

There is more than one answer to each of your questions because things vary from diocese to diocese and religious order to religious order. In other words, you would have to ask the particular group you are interested in what their policy is on each one of the points you bring up: as regards to age, debt, and education. I'm sorry I can't give you a more precise answer.

God bless.
