The archdiocese of Galveston-Houston held a  vocation congress which took place at St. Mary's Seminary on four separate weekends from February 5 to March 12, 2005

The congress has its roots in the Third Continental Congress on Vocations, which took place in Montreal, Canada in April 2001. The initiative arose in answer to suggestions made at that international meeting.
 
The archdiocesan vocations congress forms part of the vocations campaign started in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston with the hopes of "educating and evangelizing" the faithful with regard to their role in vocations. Eight leaders from each area parish, school, and lay organization were invited to learn what they could do to promote vocations locally.
 

Over 1000 delegates from 161 different parishes in Galveston-Houston gathered to attend workshops. Speakers included Archbishop Joseph Fiorenza and Coadjutor Archbishop Daniel DiNardo.

Numerous religious orders and other organizations set up booths. www.vocation.com was among those represented.

In one of his talks Archbishop Fiorenza asked that every parish in the archdiocese gather in prayer for vocations in front of the Blessed Sacrament at 7:00pm on March 9, 2005. Guides on implementing Adoration for Vocations were also handed out to every parish in the diocese.

On April 17,2005 the archdiocese concluded the vocations congress with a special vocations Mass at the Catholic Charismatic Center.
