Dear Jessica,
Are you sure that is what he said and you didn't get it mixed up?
Having a vocation does not depend on us liking certain things that we may find overwhelming at the present moment, but it does depend on us being willing to open the door to Christ to let him take over. We need to be ready to grow and gradually to give him more and more space in our lives.
I do, however, think you still have a lot to grow in your spiritual life. But then, who doesn't? I would encourage you to start by going to Mass more frequently, it doesn't have to be daily right away; prepare yourself well for it and make sure you are always able to receive Communion. Speak to Jesus after you receive him, think over what the Mass is, how much he has done for you, what it meant for him to die on the Cross. Tell him you want to love him and help him.
And begin to spend some time in prayer each day; it doesn't have to be an hour. Just some time to read the Gospel a little, reflect on it and speak to him.
And if you can, find a spiritual director to help you as you try to grow in your prayer life, and to see if God is calling you to a religious vocation. If you do have a vocation, you will not need to be an expert in prayer before you start following it. As long as you have the basic qualities and no impediments, and are willing to take the leap, you will discover that God will give you the necessary graces.
God bless. |
