Can a permanent deacon become a priest?

Javier asks:

Is possible to feel a calling to be priest after being ordained to a permanent diaconate? Can a permanent deacon be ordained priest if they have the qualities and the calling from God?

Dear Javier,

If a permanent deacon experiences a call to the priesthood and has all the necessary qualities and no impediments (such as being married) he can be accepted as a candidate for the priesthood by his bishop.

God bless,
