I'm in eighth grade. How can I find my vocation?

Bethany asks:

I`m in eighth grade and am wondering how I can find my vocation in my life? I have visited convents and have not felt a callling. AM I too young or do I not have a call?

What a beautiful note!

Let me tell you why. Jesus tells us that no-one can come to him unless the Father calls him. So the very fact that you are searching for your vocation in life and have visited convents means that the Father is calling you closer to Christ, no matter what your vocation is ultimately. And I am sure that if you take a moment to ask yourself what He means to you, you will find that he is becoming more and more important for you.

Are you too young to have a call? No, not at all; as a matter of fact, in Gods eyes you already have one, except you havent yet been able to find out what it is, or what it seems to be. But what is marvelous is, you are doing all you can to find out. Now, why would God not answer you right away, if he loves you why is he not giving you the answer as soon as you start looking? He does this all the time, and its not so as to frustrate us but to purify us. You know, when you are looking for something and you cant find it first time, if it doesnt matter to you, you give up right away, but if it does matter you keep on looking harder I misplaced my cell-phone the other day, and you can imagine how I searched for it, every nook and cranny! When we dont find the answer easily and we keep on looking, it is the opportunity to center our hearts more and more on God, until we really, really want to find out what he wants, because we want to do what he wants. When that happens, we are well on our way to being holy in the true sense of the word.

So, dont give up. Keep praying to God each day, placing yourself in his hands, like Mary. Receive him in Communion as often as you can. Do everything you know he wants you to do now, at this present time (your duties at home, your studies, helping out) out of love for him. And keep looking. But especially, tell him you trust him and that you know he knows what he is doing, and let this make you joyful in all.

God bless.
