Is there any way you could have a family first then become a nun?

Oluchi asks:

Is there any way you could have a family first then become a nun or can a nun have two jobs? I feel like God is calling me to become a nun, but at the same time a mother. So I can`t really decide which one to choose. Thank you and have a blessed day

Dear Oluchi,

Although there are some women, and some of them are canonized saints, who were first wives and mothers and then became nuns, it is not a very common path. The main thing is to give your heart totally to Christ, and if he calls you to be his spiritual Bride as a nun, you can be sure that he wants you to be the spiritual mother of many in the faith. A nun's love for Christ is undivided, exclusive, so it excludes having a family, or dividing her time between Christ's work and her own personal pursuits.

God bless.
