Being an only child is not of itself an impediment to being a sister.

Some parents find it hard to accept the vocation of their only child for it means giving up the dream of having grandchildren, and the sense of loss is greater. That is a difficulty that can only be overcome by an increase in love (truly wanting what is best for their child), and this in turn is based on faith, the priority that they give to spiritual things and their understanding of the meaning of a vocation, its importance and its beauty.

However, there may be cases in which being an only child is a major factor in discerning Gods will as, for example, if it seems fairly sure that they will need the support of their child for the basics in life, as they grow older.

It would probably be helpful to speak with a priest or sister you trust and who knows your particular situation, and take their advice.
