What should I read to prepare for religious life?

Katie asks:

I`m only 14 and feel that I have a vocation to the religious life.   I`m already doing what I can to find what exactly my vocation is but I am wondering if you could give me a reading list.  Nobody I`ve asked has been able to make recommendations. Please help.

Dear Katie,

Make sure you get to know Christ well through reading the Gospel, for if he is calling you to the religious life he is calling you to be his spouse. Also, try to visit him present in the Eucharist in Church, whenever you can.

As regards readings, I think you will find lives of the saints helpful. Saints like Therese of Lisieux, Catherine of Sienna, Agnes, Cecilia, Theresa of Avila, Elizabeth Seton, and the lives of founders of religious orders. And of course, read different lives of Christ by good authors (Fulton Sheen, for example).

God bless.
