Why do I find myself pulled in different directions?

John Paul asks:

Some days in my life I find myself wanting to become a priest while some other times I feel discouraged.  What is actually happening to me?

It is common to feel torn, pulled in different directions when thinking about a vocation. The attraction to the priesthood is a spiritual one, it is based on an outlook on life which places faith and spiritual things at the center. This does not eliminate the reality of our natural inclinations (towards marriage, freedom, material things and happiness) and it makes us even more conscious of our own weakness, as also of the many obstacles to overcome if we are going to be priests.

God bless.
