Will there ever be married priests and women priests?

Jonathan asks:

Hello. For some time I had been considering a vocation to the priesthood, but now that I am in college (freshman year at a catholic university) I have heard some strange things that are changing my mind. Our campus ministry priests seem very certain that the priesthood will change soon after we get a new pope. Supposedly there will be married priests and women priests.... Anyway, it all sounded suspicious to me until I talked over Christmas with a parish priest at home and he said that there will "indeed be changes" to counter the priest shortage, and that we must act in the spirit of Vatican II. I am very confused, not just because of this but because of a lot of the stuff that goes on in school. The Masses in the chapel don't even seem like Mass, like when they teach us to say the Our Father AND MOTHER. Is the church really changing like this? It doesn't seem right. Anyway, what is the point of me going into the seminary now if this all really going to happen? Are these rumors true? Please offer any advice you can.

Dear Jonathan,

These people are not living in the real (Catholic) world. Thirty years ago they were saying the same, that after Paul VI another Pope a little more sensible will come along and change his teaching on birth control and celibacy.

Steer away from those who can damage your faith. Get your guidance from priests, religious and lay-people who are not busy telling God what he has to do, but doing what he wants.

Don't let anyone rob you of your faith. Study the catechism, read good books and listen to tapes that can provide you with the answers. (St Joseph's Communications, Catholic Answers are two good sources). Get your friends interested in their faith and listen to the tapes together and discuss them.

Go to Mass often, and when you receive Christ in Communion tell him you want to serve him, and be a light for your brothers and sisters. He will strengthen you, and lead you
