Dear Jennifer,
Since you were a little girl you were always attracted to being a nun and always wanted to be one. Now you have met a good young man and are feeling a new attraction. You want to know if God may be calling you to marriage, you have prayed in order to find out, but you havent been able to come to any conclusions.
Maybe you are asking the wrong question.
Here are some other questions for you to consider that I hope will shed some light to solve the impasse, but first of all let me tell you I think it is very good and providential that this has happened to you, and I believe God wants you to go deeper in your relationship with him and in your understanding of what he gave you the gift of life is for. A lot of good will come from your search.
One, why did you always want to be a nun?
Did you imagine that your call would never be challenged, never have to face difficulties or the test of other attractions?
Is this the last good, wholesome and attractive man you are ever going to meet in your life? What will your reaction to the next one be, supposing you are either a nun, seriously dating, engaged or married at the time?
Remember that love is a choice to give yourself to another. Is your idea of your vocation centered on your choice to give yourself to Christ over everything else?
Had you ever considered the real sacrifice entailed in promising poverty, chastity and obedience?
I would recommend you go over these questions in Christs presence. Visit him in church, receive him in Communion. Pray the rosary regularly and contemplate with Mary the mystery of Gods love, her call and response, Jesus life. That is where you will find the pattern to follow, and where you will find the light to see (interiorly) your call, or at least the most prudent step to take right now.
God bless.
