Are there many paid jobs for those who wish to get a degree in philosophy or theology?

Melissa asks:

Dear Father,

Hi! I am a senior in high school, and am starting the great journey of college! I am really interested in studying Theology or Philosophy. These are my loves, and they always have been, but I also need to be realistic, and study for the future with a paid job. Are there many paid jobs within the Church where I could work? I know I could always be a teacher, but is there anything else? Thank you for your time.

Dear Melissa,

Yes, you have to be practical, but also you have to develop the interests God places in your heart. Besides teaching, there are ministries such as youth director, DRE (Director of Religious Education), and staff positions in various religious and service oriented organizations where you may find paid work that your degree in philosophy or theology will qualify you for.

God bless.
