Is it right for me to aspire to a traditional order?

Jerry asks:

I am 17 and currently discerning a possible call to the priesthood. I love the old Tridentine Mass. I find it much more prayerful and sacred than the Novus Ordo or at least the Novus Ordo found many churches today with contemporary music, regular usage the Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist, and other little lapses in tradition. That's not to say I don't agree with the Liturgical Reforms of Vatican II, I just have a preference for the Rite of Pius V. So, I have been looking into traditional orders like the FSSP and the ICR.  One of my teachers said that traditional orders are in schism with the Church and are not supported by the Vatican.  Groups like the SSPX who are in schism or the Sedevacantists only practice the Tridentine Mass. Is this true, and is it right for me to aspire to a traditional order. Thank you and God Bless.

Dear Jerry,

There are several Association, Societies and Monasteries that have permission to use and promote the Tridentine Liturgy, and who are most definitely in communion with the Holy See and in no way in schism. There are as well some groups that have rejected obedience to the Holy Father, placing their judgment above his, and so have forfeited their unity with the Church. Therefore, the blanket statement that all the traditional groups are in schism with the Church is false. Some are, some arent.

As you search for where God is calling you, be sure to enquire of each group if they accept Vatican II and the validity of the Novus Ordo. That will tell you where they stand.

God bless,
